November

Who first comes to this world below
With drear November's fog and snow,
Should prize the topaz's amber hue,
Emblem of friends and lovers true.

Although both November birthstones feature amber hues, one allows for a bit more variety.  The traditional stone for the month, topaz, was specificially selcted for its golden color, but it is also available in many other colors.  Topaz is known to enhance friendship and encourage healing.  The modern addition of citrine, a deep yellow-orange gem, promotes clarity and brings good luck.
