In Unakite, red feldspars and green epidote are speckled with clear or white quartz. This graceful silver setting compliments the beautiful feldspars nicely. This can be worn at work or at an elegant dinner engagement 1.2 inch long (measured without bail). Stone size 25x30 mm. The red comes from an aboundance Fe2O3 in the mother rock. If you are not familiar with Unakite, it was just recently (in geologic time) discovered and has become a popular gem in jewelry. Unakite can be found as pebbles and cobbles from glacial drift in the beach rock on the shores of Lake Superior. It is the state stone of Virginia, where it is found in the river valleys after having been washed down from the Blue Ridge Mountains. Unakite is not limited to the United States, and is reported from South Africa, Brazil, and China as well as the United States. (Wikipedia)
